Chris DuPont is a proud Michigan-native tunesmith,
endlessly reimagining the indie/folk paradigm. With an unmistakable ethereal tenor, diverse fingerstyle guitar work, and a taste for the cinematic, DuPont steers the classic eloquence and lyricism of 70’s Americana into the iridescent haze of indie pop. His songs are dreamy tapestries that ask questions about love, permanence, grief, lineage, and the frailty of human memory.
He has upped the stakes with each studio release, from the critically acclaimed LP Outlier (hailed by music critics as a “life affirming devastator”), to the captivating and unflinching Floodplains, to his recent indie-pop-anthem EP Fragile Things. Each release sees DuPont veering even further into unapologetically personal lyrical material, and further expanding the fractal of his sonic genre tastes.
Chris cut his teeth as a somewhat problematic worship singer at a Catholic Church, and left to pursue songwriting and sleep better at night. He continues to craft shows that leave listeners wondering if they've walked into a confessional, a prayer meeting, or a pivotal therapy session. The unassuming vulnerability and intense presence of DuPont’s live performances have grown a dedicated following in the midwest and beyond, cementing him as a staple figure in Michigan’s folk scene. When off the road, Chris collaborates as much as possible, and serves as a producer, audio engineer, and multi-instrumentalist session player.
Chris can often be seen as one half of the super-duo DuPont Phillips, alongside the stunning pop siren Kylee Phillips, his partner in life and music. Their 2024 debut EP Big Sky Sessions continues to be a midwest favorite.
Chris was finalist at The Acorn singer/songwriter Competition (2025, Three Oaks MI) at the Songwriter Serenade (2025, Schulenberg, TX), a finalist in the Eddies Attic Singer/Songwriter Shoot-out (2016, Atlanta GA), and a finalist in the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Singer/Songwriter Competition (2013, Lyons, CO).
Upcoming notable performances: 30A Songwriter Festival 2026, Nor’Easter Festival 2026, and many more pending.
